About
While more than 50% of American families own their homes, our education system doesn’t teach the financial and technical skills needed to manage these homes. Car manufacturers provide an owner’s manual. Your primary care physician guides you through the health maze, making referrals as needed. Unfortunately the home industries – real estate, construction, home furnishings and decorating, are highly fragmented and don’t provide this support.
The Association of Women Home Owners empowers women home owners with the knowledge and resources to tackle every home project with confidence. Home owners can learn which projects they can handle comfortably and those which require a professional. Practicing home professionals share their expertise through articles, teleseminars, question and answers and more.
This online community provides a forum for dialog between home owners and the home professionals that serve them. The information and resources will evolve to support all members as together we build homes to support individual lifestyles, businesses that deliver quality and service and together, strong communities where we live and work.
- Women home owners (men can join too) who want to learn about home ownership from buying or building a home, to maintenance and repairs, decorating, organizing and enjoying their homes. They can also share their stories and learn from home owners facing similar challenges.
- Home professionals supporting home owners making informed decisions regarding the many aspects of home ownership, by providing easy-to-understand information (articles, blog posts, Q&As, etc) and member profiles to help home owners find the ideal home professional for any project.

How We Started
The story behind the Association of Home Professionals starts in 2006. Tina Gleisner was building her My Handyman business across southern NH. She was actively networking plus investing in traditional marketing vehicles with support from the Women’s Business Center (WBC). After starting the WBC mentoring program, Tina continued helping other business owners and started sharing her experience with her first blog in 2006. As more women asked for advice, Tina realized if she didn’t know about businesses like Kim’s Black Dawg Driveway Sealcoating, others probably didn’t and that was likely due to little or no marketing.
Tina knew these owners had little money to invest in marketing, and came up with the concept of cooperative marketing. She believed they would benefit by pooling limited financial resources to participate in group projects. This would help “level the playing field” for small businesses that offered superior customer service, and especially women professionals that intuitively provide women homeowners with the information and support they desire in traditionally male dominated industries.
Following several planning meetings in 2006, Tina created 4 Walls 1 Roof in the winter of 2007, with the help of 4 other women. Their goal was to collaborate on marketing their businesses through a shared web site, and through events like the NH Home Builder’s Home Show where they exhibited in March 2007. Since our very first show, we’ve participated in more than 15 events.
