This picture demonstrates how a thermal imaging camera may be used to quickly and accurately find ducting concealed behind drywall. My own home’s bathroom is where this picture was shot. Using this camera, I was able to see that the flooring contractor had sealed up the vent hole and ductwork when my home was first constructed. The initial photograph of my bathroom floor glowing pink alerted me that something was off, but I have lost it. You can see the additional ducts that provide warm air to the upper rooms in this view, which was taken after I cut out the floor aperture and installed a vent.

This infrared camera is also useful for detecting duct leaks or obstructions. A significantly greater section of the drywall would be giving off a heat signature if there was a hole in one of these ducts enabling warm air to escape into the wall. Maintenance and Inspections of HVAC Systems

A vast variety of machines are included in the HVAC category. Machines such as boilers, chillers, air handlers, and compressors are included. It makes me think of things like automobile engines becoming too hot, computer servers reaching critical temperatures, bearings running hot because they aren’t properly oiled or lubricated, and frayed or corroded electrical connections. Excessive heat is generated and failure occurs in all of these situations.
